Attorneys Present Legal Issues at Healthcare Workshop

The Arkansas Health Information Management Association hosted a half-day workshop focused on legal issues in the industry. Attorneys Lynda Johnsonand Tonya Gierke presented at the event. 

Topics discussed included an overview of legal health records, responding to subpoenas, the retention and destruction of health records, HIPAA security rule and audits and amendments to electronic health records. 

Lynda has practiced in the health law area since 1986, representing a wide variety of healthcare providers including hospitals, physicians, physician groups, nursing homes, and home health agencies. Recently, her practice has focused on representation of hospitals and physicians in HIPAA compliance efforts and other areas of regulatory compliance. Her practice also includes issues involving Stark I and II and Anti-Kickback compliance, Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, corporate compliance issues, physician and hospital organization issues, managed care, health care and hospital law, long-term care and home health.  

Tonya joined the firm in August of 2016 after serving for over a decade as a Corporate Compliance Officer, Risk Manager, and Privacy Officer in a hospital setting. Tonya has also practiced law in the area of medical malpractice defense.  In addition to having experience in healthcare compliance and legal matters, Tonya’s nursing career includes experience in pediatric oncology, emergency department, and flight nursing.
