Attorneys Volunteer Services to Help Those in Need

February 14, 2017

For the fourth year, attorneys with Friday, Eldredge & Clark have partnered with the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission and Southern Bancorp to provide pro bono will preparation services to low-income residents of Helena and Eudora. The involvement in the Super Saturday events is just another example of how the firm and its attorneys are committed to the commission's mission to provide protection of the law for all Arkansans. By working with key partners in low-income communities, attorneys are able to provide pro-bono work for families who would normally not be able to afford the service.

Focused on Our Community

For the fourth year, attorneys with Friday, Eldredge & Clark have partnered with the Arkansas Access to Justice Commission and Southern Bancorp to provide pro bono will preparation services to low-income residents of Helena and Eudora. The involvement in the Super Saturday events is just another example of how the firm and its attorneys are committed to the commission's mission to provide protection of the law for all Arkansans. By working with key partners in low-income communities, attorneys are able to provide pro-bono work for families who would normally not be able to afford the service.

"These individuals often work hard and accumulate some modest wealth, such as a home, but they do not plan for what will happen to those assets when they die," said partner William Waddell, Jr. "As a result, assets are often not transferred effectively to the next generation and are sometimes lost for failure to pay property taxes and through partition actions, which perpetuates systemic poverty. The bank and the firm recognize that we can help to alleviate those systemic poverty issues with each person we serve at these events."

In addition to Bill, attorneys Harry A. LightKatie Watson and Blake Lewis volunteered their time and services in Helena on Saturday, Feb. 11.

"It was nothing short of a great day," said Harry. "The smile on the clients' faces when they sign their documents and the fellowship with Southern Bancorp officers and employees, law students and fellow attorneys made for a rewarding Saturday in Helena," he added.

The next Super Saturday event will take place in Eudora on Saturday, Feb. 25 at the J Austin White Community Center. For more details, visit www.arkansasjustice.org. Other partners include Legal Aid of Arkansas and the Center for Arkansas Legal Services.
