FRIDAY I Feature: Law Student Gets More Than Expected From Internship

The firm has had the pleasure of working with legal intern Johanna Stenberg of Finland for the past month. Johanna, who is a third-year law student at Tallinn University in Estonia, originally became acquainted with our state in 2012 when she was an exchange student at Morrilton High School (where she later graduated.) “I knew I wanted to come back to Arkansas,” she said. “And I wanted the chance to experience the practice of law and I was able to do that here.”

FRIDAY I Feature: Attorney Mike Moore Celebrates Birthday With Charity Ride

120-Mile Bike Ride Raises Thousands For Local Cause Close to His Heart

An ordinary birthday celebration might include dinner with family and friends, a candle-topped cake and maybe a gift or two. But Attorney Mike Moore is anything but ordinary.

When he began thinking about how he wanted to spend his 60th birthday, he decided against the traditional and chose to spend the day giving instead of getting.

On Sunday, June 25th Mike took his new bike, a recent birthday gift from his wife Jane, along the banks of the Arkansas River on a 120-mile ride where he raised more than $2,000 in donation and pledges for the Wolfe Street Foundation (WSF).

Mike Moore celebrates his 60th birthday with charity bike ride.

“My motivation was, in some way, to deny getting old,” Mike said.

Mike, a former foundation board president, choose to raise money and awareness for this charity specifically because “it’s my duty to give back what was so freely given to me,” he said. The WSF calls Mike a “hidden hero” for creatively working behind the scenes to help keep the doors open for those in need.

WSF is Arkansas' largest non-profit dedicated exclusively to recovery from alcoholism and addiction. The mission of WSF is to provide facilities, education and outreach for the Central Arkansas community for persons and their families seeking recovery from alcoholism and addiction.

Mike began his more than seven-hour journey with a friend and ended his ride with Jane, two other friends and fellow attorney Dan Herrington. Dan credits Mike for getting him into cycling more than 10 years ago when Mike loaned him his first road bike and helped him organize his first ride. “We’ve ridden a lot together over the years and I wanted to support him on his 60thbirthday ride,” he said.

In the end, he did spend a rather ordinary evening at home with dinner and of course cake, but it was only after accomplishing something rather extraordinary.

“What a wonderful day to live out my motto of 'if it’s worth doing, it’s worth overdoing,'” Mike said.

Mike's wife Jane started his 120-mile journey with him.
