USCIS updated the El Salvador TPS page this morning with the following alert: “An announcement on El Salvador’s TPS will be made at the appropriate time. Until such announcement is made, Salvadoran individuals present in the U.S. under TPS retain protection including work authorization.” TPS for Salvadoran individuals was set to expire yesterday, September 9, 2026, at which time such individuals would lose work authorization and lawful status in the United States. At present, it is unclear whether DHS intends to alter its original position that TPS holders must self-deport or face deportation. We will continue to monitor for additional announcements.
